On April 8 the Canadian government tabled it’s Budget 2022 report, which confirmed the Government of Canada’s commitment to ensuring that the Copyright Act protects all creators and copyright holders, acknowledges the importance of creating the conditions to ensure a sustainable educational publishing industry, including fair remuneration for rightsholders.
London Book Fair (5-7 April) was bristling, bringing back memories of easier times. IPA was also back and with a big focus on sustainability. From inspiring the leaders of the future through children’s books, to a challenging and thought-provoking Sustainability keynote. From a new InSPIRe report on how to make our sector more sustainable and resilient to practical panel discussion on what publishers can do now. All of this crowned by the Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact reaching and surpassing 200 signatories.
The IPA’s Educational Publishers Forum (EPF) met physically for the first time in two years just after the London Book Fair.
The final day of this SCCR began with the Chair recognising a cloud of fatigue in the room and encouraging delegates to press on through the day to finish the week.
Day 4 of this 42nd meeting of the SCCR picked up exactly where Day 3 left off, with discussions on exceptions and limitations and observer organisations continuing their statements.
Day 3 of SCCR 42 opened with further discussion and analysis of the new text on the broadcasting treaty with the afternoon reserved for discussions on exceptions and limitations.
