A crucial part of IPA's mission is to inform member associations and the wider global publishing community about breaking developments which will impact publishers. We do this through a number of channels. the IPA website, our monthly e-newsletter, press releases and the IPA's dedicated social media feeds.

At the beginning of July, IPA representatives — including IPA President, Bodour Al Qasimi, Chair of the Educational Publishers Forum, Stephan de Valk, and Secretary General José Borghino — participated in a series of events scheduled in and around the 26th São Paulo Book Fair or ‘Bienal’.

10th Turkish Publishing Assembly

The Turkish Publishing Assembly is held every two years since 2004 by the Turkish Publishers Association (TPA) in order to closely follow the developments in publishing, to discuss the problems of the sector with national and international stakeholders and to find solutions. 10th Turkish Publishing Assembly was held online on 15-16 June 2022 this year.


The World Intellectual Property Organization Assemblies took place in Geneva and online from 14 to 22 July. Member States brought years of negotiations on two issues closer to resolution with agreement on two Diplomatic Conferences. The Assemblies also included a side event on the Marrakesh Treaty.

In June, the Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg published the full judgement behind its decision of April 21 2022 to liquidate the Charitable Foundation, Sphere, the largest LGBT+ rights NGO in Russia. The judgement clearly states that the NGO’s publication of Mothers, Fathers and Kids from Dusk till Dawn authored by Lawrence Schimel, illustrated by Elina Braslina and translated into Russian by Dmitry Kuzmin, was part of its decision.
